Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi called for a rapid investigation and accountability following the killings of Elvino Dias and Paulo Guambe.

He expressed solidarity with the victims’ families and wished a quick recovery to Adassa Macuácua, who was also shot while travelling in the same vehicle.

Nyusi said no one has the right to take another person’s life and called on competent authorities to clarify the case. On demonstrations, he recognised citizens’ right to protest while insisting that public action should remain within the law.

The President also appealed for calm amid planned protests linked to the ongoing electoral process and expressed concern about violence between demonstrators and police, which had resulted in injuries on both sides.
