As part of an initiative to strengthen the capacities of media professionals, the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB), in partnership with UNESCO, is inviting its members to take part in a series of webinars on Media and Information Literacy (MIL).
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to integrate MIL principles into editorial policies and professional practices across African media. The training is designed for editors, journalists, content producers, communication officers and programme directors from AUB member broadcasters.
The sessions aim to strengthen understanding of MIL in a context of growing disinformation, promote internal policies for responsible and critical content production, and encourage MIL partnerships within broadcasting organisations.
Three webinars are scheduled: an introduction to Media and Information Literacy and current challenges on 12 August 2025 at 09:30 GMT; practical tools and information verification on 20 August 2025 at 09:30 GMT; and ethics, professional standards and diversity in the media on 22 August 2025 at 09:30 GMT. Each session will last two hours.
An in-person workshop is also planned in Port Louis, Mauritius, in late October 2025. It will focus on real cases of disinformation, ethical content creation, strategies for integrating MIL into editorial policies and the sharing of best practices.
AUB will cover accommodation, meals and local transport for participants, while international travel remains the responsibility of participating institutions.
