Abidjan hosted the opening ceremony of the 16th General Assembly of the African Union of Broadcasting on 19 June 2025 under the patronage of Côte d’Ivoire’s Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé.

The event brought together directors-general, ministers, academics, media professionals, students and civil-society representatives around the theme of financial and technological resilience and innovative content for African media.

Prime Minister Mambé highlighted the role of media in social transformation and called for dialogue and collective solutions. AUB Executive Council President Cléophas Barore stressed the persistent challenge of financing production and distribution in an environment marked by resource scarcity and growing competition.

Communication Minister Amadou Coulibaly encouraged African broadcasters to embrace social media, streaming, OTT services and podcasts while investing in local cultural, historical and socioeconomic content.

The opening day also included visits to partner stands and networking opportunities around innovation and cooperation.
