Media representatives from China and Belt and Road countries including the African Union of Broadcasting announced a new vision for global cooperation at the 11th Global Visual Media Forum (VMF) in Beijing on Thursday, calling for a more diverse, inclusive and healthier media landscape.
More than 140 representatives from 108 international media organizations and major media outlets from 63 countries and regions participated in the event under the theme “Vision for a Shared Future”.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative, the Declaration on Joint Action of Belt and Road Media Organizations, one of the most important outcomes of the event, was proposed jointly by the CMG and more than 80 media organizations.
The Declaration calls for further strengthening of media responsibilities and innovative cooperation, as well as the promotion of exchanges between civilizations.
Shen Haixiong, vice minister in charge of the Communications Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CMG, attended the forum and delivered a speech on global media cooperation.
“In the future, we will have to shoulder our responsibilities as media and promote a new international media and opinion landscape. Media organizations are like a beacon of information that determines the direction of international public opinion Today, the CMG, together with major media outlets from Belt and Road countries, issued the Declaration on Joint Action, aiming to put responsibilities into practice and strengthen cooperation among media outlets. Our goal is to provide diverse perspectives in reporting to global audiences and promote the building of a culturally inclusive, positive and healthy international public opinion environment,” he said.
