Faced with the growing challenges of the digital era, including the rapid spread of disinformation, fake news and hate speech, the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB) is organising a major strategic seminar dedicated to Media and Information Literacy (MIL).
The workshop follows online sessions held in August 2025 and will take place at the Suffren Hotel in Port Louis, Mauritius, on 30 and 31 October 2025.
For AUB, effective integration of MIL has become a strategic priority for media institutions. In an environment where public trust is weakened by the speed and volume of unverified content, MIL is no longer simply an educational option but an issue of democratic and professional resilience.
Organised in partnership with UNESCO and the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation, the seminar aims to move beyond knowledge transfer by encouraging media organisations to formally integrate MIL approaches into internal content-production policies and newsroom routines, both offline and online.
The programme will draw on UNESCO’s Media and Information Literacy curriculum, with a strong focus on critical thinking under the guiding message: “Think critically, click wisely.”
By organising this workshop, AUB highlights the central role of education in socioeconomic transformation and the importance of informed audiences and responsible media for stable democracies and innovative economies.
