The African Union of Broadcasting (AUB) and the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health (UNU-INWEH) signed a Memorandum of Understanding marking the official launch of the African Hub of the Global Media Academy at AUB’s Secretariat in Dakar.

The partnership creates a new platform to strengthen the capacity of African media, particularly in reporting on water, climate change, environmental sustainability and development.

AUB Director General Grégoire Ndjaka described the agreement as a milestone in the Union’s mission to promote responsible and impactful journalism. He said the Academy would equip African media professionals with scientific understanding, ethical foundations and practical skills to inform, educate and empower society.

UNU-INWEH Director Prof. Kaveh Madani highlighted the importance of media in translating scientific knowledge into public understanding and policy action. Dr Javad Mottaghi, responsible for the Global Media Academy, said the African Hub would serve as a centre for training, knowledge exchange and innovation in science journalism.

The partnership positions AUB’s Dakar Secretariat as a continental hub for media training and capacity building. Training programmes, workshops and collaborative initiatives focused on ethical, science-based and solutions-oriented journalism are expected to be launched.
