12TH ORDINARY GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE AUB IN MARRAKECH FROM 25 – 29 MARCH 2019

1. The 12th Annual General Assembly (AGM) of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB) was held in Marrakech, Morocco on March 27 and 28, 2019 and was organized jointly with the National Broadcasting Corporation of Morocco (SNRT) under the theme “The influence of new media on the African Audiovisual industry”

2. As a prelude to the General Assembly, a forum was held on the 25th and 26th of March on the issue of the migration from analogue to digital television in Africa under the theme: “The contribution of Regulators in the switch-over process from Analogue to Digital”

3. The King of Morocco, His Majesty Mohammed VI, pledged his – support to the African Audiovisual media in the switch-over from analogue to digital; and – urged African countries to relentlessly engage in the migration process from analogue to digital.

4. The General Assembly expressed its appreciation for the participation of the Ministers of Communication at these meetings. They were from: – Morocco, – Angola, – Niger – Representatives of the Ministers of Communication of Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire

5. The General Assembly welcomed the presence and active participation in the deliberations of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF); 2

6. The General Assembly urged the Confederation of African Football, CAF and its executive council: – to support the African communication revival embodied by the AUB; – to ensure the complete maturity of Africa through the management of authentically African competitions. That is, those organized by Africans, for Africans, whose broadcasting rights would be managed by Africans (AUB);

7. Congratulates the Chief Executive Officer of the AUB and fully renews without reservation his mandate in managing relations with CAF and any other organization responsible for the production of audiovisual content.

8. Reaffirms its unity around the AUB, its unwavering support and its unlimited solidarity with the AUB

9. Exceptionally, for the quality of the work done by the Chief Executive Officer of the AUB, the pertinence of the reforms undertaken during the last three years, which has begun to bear fruits, renews his mandate for a period of 4 years to from January 1st 2020.
