Theme: “AUB, 20 Years Serving African Media: Heritage, Innovation and Transformation”
The African Union of Broadcasting (AUB) is proud to announce its 17th General Assembly, coinciding with the celebration of its 20th anniversary. This milestone event will bring together media leaders, broadcasting professionals, government officials, sports confederations, experts, academics, content creators, and strategic partners from across Africa and beyond.
As Africa’s largest broadcasting organization with 85 members, the AUB has served for two decades as a central pillar in audiovisual cooperation, resource pooling, and defending the strategic interests of public and private broadcasters across the continent.
Why This Assembly Matters
In a global context marked by rapid technological transformation, new consumption patterns, and growing challenges for public and private media, this high-level gathering will address critical issues shaping the future of African broadcasting:
- Heritage: Reclaiming the African narrative, preserving audiovisual archives, protecting language diversity, and ensuring equitable access to sports rights
- Innovation: Leveraging emerging technologies including AI, cloud solutions, and digital platforms to strengthen African media competitiveness
- Transformation: Modernizing governance structures, developing sustainable economic models, and professionalizing media teams

The four-day assembly will feature:
- Strategic Panels on sports rights management, innovative financing models, digital transformation, and AI integration
- AUB Media Awards Gala celebrating excellence in African audiovisual production across Documentary, Magazine, and News Report categories
- Networking Opportunities with industry leaders, technical partners, and sister broadcasting unions
- Launch of Major Initiatives including the African AI Observatory, African Training Center for Audiovisual and Digital Professions, and the African Content Exchange Network
- Fundraising Campaign supporting the AUB Foundation’s fight against cancer through media awareness
About the AUB Media Awards 2026
Submissions are now open for the fourth edition of the AUB Radio and Television Program Competition. Member organizations can submit one program per category (Documentary, Magazine, or News Report) on themes including African success stories, migration, sports and development, African heritage, artificial intelligence, peace challenges, feminicide in Africa, and the AUB’s journey.
Submission Deadline: January 31, 2026
