Members of the United Nations Security Council reaffirmed support for regional peace efforts concerning the Democratic Republic of the Congo and welcomed the fifth ministerial meeting held in Luanda on 12 October 2024.

They called on the DRC and Rwanda to respect the ceasefire agreement signed on 30 July with Angolan mediation and condemned recent violations attributed to the M23 movement.

The Council stressed the importance of regional processes led by the African Union and African regional organisations in reversing escalating violence in eastern DRC and addressing the worsening humanitarian situation.

Members called for increased humanitarian support, safe access for aid organisations and an end to violations of international humanitarian law, including gender-based violence, conflict-related sexual violence and the recruitment of children.

The Council also reiterated condemnation of armed groups operating in the DRC and reaffirmed support for MONUSCO and United Nations peace efforts.
